Professional training
Content and procedure:
in the first year of training the apprentices learn for instance:
how to make freehand sketches and use norms
extracting tubes
to pay attention of the cooling of hot glass
how to justify simple thermometers in ice- or waterbaths
to number, stamp and adjust scales correctly
in the second year of training they learn among other things:
how to add extensions and vessel tubes on capillary tubes
what you have to consider by measuring capillary tubes and vessels
to draft cervicals on cylindric tubes
to think highly of the correct adjustment, corking and sealing of scales
the application and removing of wax, coloring
in the third year of training they lastly learn:
melting down capillars
what you have to consider processing stab and stock thermometers
the characteristics and application area of fill liquid
how to fill and evacuate thermometers
During the theoretical education
the apprentices acuire e.g. the basic knowledge in following areas:
The material glass
Electrotechnical basics, tools and machines such as other auxiliary materials
The manufacturing and process of glass, study of scientific glass and thermometers
Special technics like vacuum technology, adjustements, compound of glass and ceramics
Physical and mathematical basics as well as basics in sketching apperatures and components
Upcoming thermometermakers can make a further education to become a glassblower, master of scientific glassblowing, foreman for glass or an engineer of glass.
Thermometermaker with a matriculation standard have the possibility to study. A study path in engineering science with the focus on materials, physical technics and machine-building presents itself.
The precondition to go into business with a thermometer concern is an examination for the master's certificate as glassblower and scientific glassblower.
