Content and procedure
In the first year of training the apprentices learn for example:
- how to differentiate glass considering their composition, kind and application
- to use burners and fans
- to detach and blast glass tubes and hollow solids mechanically
- extracting tubes
- melting peaks and tubes
- to handle stresses in glass
- the functions of the measuring equipment and inspection devices
- to use measuring sticks and caliper rules
in the second year of training:
- how to attach steam and altitude compensation tubes on to solids
- what you have to consider blowing glass into a form
- the attachment of valves
- to manufacture washing bottles (for gas), funnels for drips and (scheidetrichter) as well as bowl and Liebig condenser
- how to bend glass tubes correctly
in the third year of training:
- how to use other materials (synthetic material, metal, ceramic glass) in production of scientific glass
- how to compund glass and metal
- side attachments on bigger glass pipes
- the work with a tungstic needle
- how to check the form, volume, condition and dimension of glass appliances
- the defects of non finished products and how they affect the process
Professionalism
The job offers the following possibilities after completing the training:
The process of glass appliances and glass devices for science, technics and industry as well as objects of utility and art.
This takes place in a technical coined batch production or in small-scale productions.
Agitations:
- Preparing works: drawing, choice of correct glass type
- Deformation of glass tubes and rods by bending, pulling, straitening and blowbacking
- Connecting the precast parts to devices considering drawings
- Further process of devices and gadgets, via evacuating, grinding, silvering or smelting of metal threads; attaching scales and label them after measuring their volume
- Reparation of defect devices

- hand torches and bench burners, glassworking lathes, vavuum installations
